The steel structure of a triangular truss is mainly composed of upper chords, lower chords, and web members, which are connected through nodes to form stable triangular units. Triangles have inherent stability; when the structure is subjected to external forces, the load is transmitted along the upper chord to the web member, then from the web member to the lower chord, finally dispersing the load to the supporting structure. In practical applications, common forms of triangular trusses include Fink, Howe, and Pratt types, with different forms suitable for different spans, load conditions, and building requirements. For example, the Fink truss, due to its unique geometric shape, can effectively reduce the amount of steel used in large-span buildings while ensuring structural strength.
Performance Characteristics
High Stability: The geometric characteristics of triangles give triangular truss steel structures excellent stability. Compared to other structural forms, triangular trusses are less prone to deformation and instability when subjected to vertical loads, wind loads, and seismic actions. In buildings in strong wind areas, triangular trusses can withstand the uplift force of the wind on the roof, ensuring building safety. In some factory projects in coastal areas, buildings using triangular truss steel structures remain structurally intact even during typhoons, effectively protecting internal equipment and personnel safety.
Good Load-Bearing Performance: The members of a triangular truss steel structure mainly bear axial tension or compression. This type of stress allows the high strength of steel to be fully utilized. Compared to bending members, axially loaded members can utilize steel more efficiently, reducing material waste. In large-span buildings, by rationally designing the form and member size of the triangular truss, spaces spanning tens of meters can be easily spanned, creating open usable spaces inside the building.
Strong Spatial Adaptability: Triangular truss steel structures have diverse shapes and can be flexibly designed according to building functions and appearance requirements. They can be used in sloped roof buildings to create a traditional architectural image; they can also be used in flat roof buildings to achieve a simple and modern appearance by hiding the truss structure. In cultural tourism projects, many buildings with an antique style use triangular truss steel structures, meeting the needs of large spaces while presenting an antique architectural style.
Easy for Standardized Production: Modern steel structure processing technology is mature, and the members and nodes of triangular trusses can be standardized in factories, with high precision and stable quality. After production, they are transported to the construction site for assembly, greatly shortening the construction period and reducing the impact of on-site construction on the environment. In some large-scale commercial complex projects, the use of prefabricated triangular truss steel structures significantly improves construction efficiency, allowing for the completion of construction and commencement of operation ahead of schedule.

Broad Prospects. Currently, the goals of China's construction industry development are: to improve the overall quality of the construction industry, the level of industrial production and technological equipment, to achieve strong competitiveness in the international construction market, and to fully utilize the leading role of the construction industry in driving national economic growth and structural adjustment. By 2010, the goal is to make the construction industry a truly pillar industry of the national economy. For the construction industry to drive the development of related industries, accelerating the development of steel structure engineering is a very important aspect. Steel structure systems have comprehensive advantages such as light weight, easy installation, short construction period, good seismic performance, fast investment return, and less environmental pollution. Compared with reinforced concrete structures, they have unique advantages in terms of "high, large, and light" development.
